Habit 3: Put First Things First

Our week of practicing habit 3 (putting first things first) is done! The kids really grasped this one- and are starting to apply it to their weekly work already!

Day 1 of our week of mini-lessons: Again, we started out with a chapter of The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. The character didn't do his work first- He chose to have fun first instead. The kids were all telling him what to do!

Day 2: We thought about our "big rocks" - the 3 or 4 things that are most important in our lives. We wrote them down on this list and thought about the things that we should do every day to correlate with those big rocks.

Day 3: Video time! We watched the Berenstain Bears' Trouble at School on Youtube. This episode is a little over 10 minutes. The Berenstain Bears have some GREAT episodes for the 7 habits - I know that other teachers showed "By the Sea" and "Big Bear, Small Bear" for this day!

Day 4: We each made a list of the things we did after school the day before. We circled the ones that were really important, and put an X next to the things that weren't important. Whoops... You mean, playing Minecraft isn't important?!?

Day 5: I found this awesome "work, then play" to-do list online, and we used it to make a to-do list for the weekend. We did some great prioritizing!

Well, that's the end of our first 3 habits - the 3 individual habits! Hopefully your kids are ready to move on to the interdependent habits too! :-)
